they say we're still in Iowa

but it seems cool and green more like Minnesota in this campsite by the Cedar River. the people i travel with decided to stop and try to fix the door. the wind has been whistling around it, daylight has been coming through the edges, and South Dakota winds would surely pull it open for me. alas, they want to stop my party before it starts, so they're busy unhinging, finding new wood to brace it up, un-upholstering it, and when it goes back in, if it fits, they'll be satisfied.  and i'll be locked up.

today's excitement (in addition to the door challenge) was that when we pulled in to a truck stop and locked the door, half the key broke off in the lock.  these people of mine!  they just kept on sauntering to the truck stop to get coffee, and they actually laughed at their bus and bad luck...

by the way, my people have told me more than once that i'm not their baby--they have real children (all five are grown up so i don't know why they call them children). as they leave me behind in the bus, they always say "you're a dog. we're the people."  for that reason and many more, i refuse to call them my parents.  i just call them by their sounds:  ahhhn   and  eeeen.

eeeen sometimes calls me xanex and she holds on to me as we cruise down a highway.  she calls this the roller coacher, and she screams like she's at the carnival, and here i am in her lap trying to sleep.  but ahhhn is having the time of his life, and he's the one who really counts, so we're good.  we may have to get a muzzle before this trip is over.

they bought me a new straight jacket yesterday.  i had successfully chewed the buckle off my old harness (do they think i'm a horse?) and the choke chain does nothing but make me cough and faint.  so they brought back a Pink vest of some sort; just wait.  it looks walmart cheap and i'll ruin it somehow.

ok, i hope to God they start walking again.  "i'm too tired...."    "let's start tomorrow..."  that's all i've heard  for a month and i'm sick of it.  this place is full of trails and grass and trees.  if this one doesn't get them going nothing will.  they sure walk slow now that we've been to illinois.
